Invisible Stools

The “Invisible Stools” exhibition, held at Septième from February 27th to March 13th, 2022, showcased 50 stools collected from 16 countries by Wang Chen, founder of the vintage furniture buyer dontouch. The concept of “INVISIBLE STOOLS” was derived from “Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino: similar to Marco Polo as a globe-trotter, who described his experiences to the emperor by imagining 55 cities he encountered during his journey, Wang Chen, as a traveler, collected stools from different cities as symbols of everyday life in various cultures. This exhibition reflected on the infinite possibilities of this type of object. The description of “not being seen” also interpreted the characteristic of stools as negligible yet indispensable in shaping our daily lives.
